Porte Sante lions

My favourite Florentine cemetery (at least so far, but I think it’s hard to beat),
Cimitero delle Porte Sante, proved to have quite a selection of lions.

These two tomb watching brothers top the league I think.
Large, majestic and dignified.  Loyal and faithful. Individual and almost, almost cuddly.

Art Nouveau galore

.

There are not many Art Nouveau houses to be found in Florence.
And probably not one that is more Art Nouveau than this.
(Please correct me if I’m wrong, I’d love to know of more places like this!) *

.

This house is called Villino (“little villa”, I presume) Broggi-Caraceni and was erected in 1911.
The architect was Giovanni Michelazzi.

* Edit: I found this website with more of Michelazzis arhitecture in Florence. Must go back there and see it!

What a gem! The place is packed with crazy, wonderful details.

.

.

I discovered the house, which is in via Scipione Ammorato, on my way to Coop many years ago. No need to tell you I was thrilled to see it again, now with a digital camera and a good zoom!

.

Imagine, going grocery shopping and every time passing this treasure!

.

.

A cuddly teddy bear dog entwined in the intricate loops of the balcony didn’t reduce the impression one bit.

.

.

Every detail is in style. Flower pots and pedestals, all different but matching the house completely.

.

.

Of course I could only see the house from one side, from outside the fence on the street.
I wonder if it’s as grand all around?
And that is not all one can wonder about this house. It is truly mind boggling!
