Santissima Annunziata

.

From our flat at Piazza San Marco there is only a few minutes walk to the next piazza, Santissima Annunziata.
One of my favourite piazzas in Florence.

.

.

This place is so much.
It is the beginning of the Renaissance with Brunelleschi’s fine arches at the Ospedale degli Innocenti.

.

.

It is the basilica from 1250 with an interior out of this world… I will come back to that in another post.

.

.

It is the two extremely odd mannerist fountains, god knows what they are about…

.

.

At least you’d better not drink from them…

.

.

It is the bloke on his horse who has a great view of the Duomo through via dei Servi.

.

.

It is beautiful golden late afternoon sunlight. OK, so the guy on the horse is Ferdinando I de’ Medici.

.

.

It is a large, symmetrical and beautiful square, full of life and constantly changing.

.

.

See what I mean?
